Understand your calorie and nutrition targets in Studio Era

Find your calorie and macro targets, understand how your recommended calories are calculated, and see why your target, planned meals, and logged food may show different totals.

Studio Era shows a calorie target along with protein, fat, and carb targets for your profile.

You may also see different calorie or macro totals in your Meal Plan and Food Diary. Those numbers represent different things, so they aren’t always expected to match.

Find your calorie and macro targets

To see the nutrition targets shown for your profile:

  1. Tap Explore in the bottom navigation.

  2. Select Nutrition.

  3. Find the card showing Target Cals along with your protein, fat, and carb targets.

How are my recommended calories calculated?

Studio Era first calculates your basal metabolic rate (BMR) using the Harris-Benedict formula.

The calculation uses the sex, weight, and height associated with your profile. Studio Era then uses your BMR together with your goals and activity level to determine your recommended target calories.

Your target calories are recalculated when you:

  • complete a check-in,

  • update your measurements,

  • change your goals, or

  • change your activity level.

Studio Era uses this target as a general guide when choosing a meal plan. The app recommends selecting a meal plan within your target-calorie range.

If you’d like to review this information again directly in the app, go to Explore → Nutrition, then tap the information icon on the Target Cals card to open Recommended Calories.

Review the references behind the recommendation

You can open Studio Era’s reference list in either of these ways:

From Recommended Calories

  1. Go to Explore → Nutrition.

  2. Tap the information icon on the Target Cals card.

  3. Scroll to the bottom of Recommended Calories.

  4. Tap View references.

From your profile

  1. Tap Home in the bottom navigation.

  2. Tap your profile picture or initial in the top-right corner.

  3. Scroll down to References.

  4. Tap References to review the sources used in the app.

Why don’t all of my calorie and macro numbers match?

Your target, planned meals, and logged food represent different things in Studio Era:

  • Target: the calorie and macro targets shown for your profile in Explore → Nutrition.

  • Meal Plan: the meals and nutrition Studio Era has planned for you to eat.

  • Food Diary: the food you actually logged eating.

Because these numbers describe different things, the totals shown in each area can be different.

For example, having a meal in your Meal Plan does not mean that meal has already been logged in your Food Diary.

Review what’s planned in your Meal Plan

If you want to understand the meals and nutrition currently planned for you, see Use, customize or change a meal plan.

Your Meal Plan represents what you’re planning to eat. It does not automatically become part of your Food Diary.

Review what you actually logged

Your Food Diary records the food you actually added for today or a previous date.

What if my nutrition needs are different?

The targets shown in Studio Era are general recommendations based on the information associated with your profile.

If you have medical, dietary, or other individual nutrition needs, follow the guidance of a qualified healthcare professional rather than using the app as a replacement for individualized medical or nutrition advice.
